Dr. Kathy Allard’s Services in Sonoma and Burlingame include: Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Certified EMDR Practitioner

I work with individuals, couples, and families on a wide range of life problems and issues.

I have a general psychological practice, as well as having many specialty areas of training.

My Approach

My training and experience has helped me to recognize the internal issues and behavioral patterns that can lead to feeling stuck or unsatisfied with yourself, your relationships, and in career or other life pursuits.

It is my role to provide a facilitating environment where you can safely explore and work through the relevant issues involving yourself and your relationships.

I treat primarily adults and adolescents, who tend to vary with regard to age, stage of life, cultural background.  I also treat couples and families.  Many of the people I see have achieved a degree of success, but remain unsatisfied with some aspect of their life. In spite of that success, they may experience self-esteem issues, battle anxiety or depression, struggle with an addiction, or in their relationships. Some feel unsatisfied with work life. They want to make a change or move to the next level in their career.

What is EDMR Therapy?

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of psychotherapy developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro to help people resolve symptoms resulting from disturbing and unresolved life experiences. It uses a structured approach to address past, present, and future aspects of disturbing memories. According to Dr. Shapiro, many emotional problems and disorders are manifestations of these unprocessed trauma memories that are stored in the brain. EMDR helps the brain reprocess these traumatic memories, alleviating the resulting emotional and psychological negative effects, including PTSD, anxiety, phobias, depression attachment disorders etc.

The effectiveness of EMDR is supported by several controlled studies; in fact EMDR is the most researched psychotherapeutic treatment for PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). In some studies EMDR is as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure therapies.

I have been using EMDR successfully with adults, adolescents and couples for the past 30 years.
